Travel: Around- Boston Bar

Boston Bar
TransCanada Hwy #1, under one hour drive from Hope
Boston Bar is nestled on the dry side of B.C.'s Coastal Mountain Range. It is the gateway to the Nahatlatch Valley, and is quickly becoming a popular holiday destination with both local attractions and the nearby mountains, lakes and rivers. The area has hot canyon summers, mild spring and autumn weather, with the occasional white winter.

Boston Bar and neighbouring North Bend offer some of B.C.'s best backcountry camping along the Nahatlatch lakes and river. The three Nahatlatch lakes and river offer rugged Forest Service campsites and fishing for Cutthroat Trout and Dolly Varden. There is quieter, family oriented camping at the Blue Lake Resort north of Boston Bar. The mountains which frame the valley are criss-crossed with numerous trails that pass alpine meadows and cascading waterfalls, ideal for both hiking and mountain biking.

The town's name came from the local Lilooet, who described the Americans panning for gold on the bar in the river "boston Men." Later on there was a fight (imortalized as the Battle of Boston Bar) between the Boston men and the Lilooet, in which 7 Lilooet were killed.

Nahatlatch River
The Rivers provide scenic canoe trips and world-class whitewater rafting. The Nahatlatch River is considered one of the premier whitewater runs in Canada because of it's continuous rapids. The Nahatlatch lakes and river are accessed from Boston Bar via North Bend, across the Fraser River on the Cog Harrington Bridge (before the bridge, people used an aerial car ferry that operated since 1940. Keep alert for logging trucks during working hours on the 13 km road until the high bridge over the Nahatlatch River canyon. At 24 km you'll reach jade-green Francis Lake, the first of the three Nahatlatch lakes, followed by Hannah Lake and Nahatlatch Lake.
